The sat Verbal Section
There are two verbal sections of the SAT: Reading Comprehension and Writing, each worth 800 points.
The Reading Comprehension section consists of two major components: sentence completion and passage-based reading. For this section, I teach students how to approach each subsection effectively as well as important test techniques such as active reading skills and question interpretation.
The Writing section also consists of two main components: grammar and essay writing. To help raise students' scores in this section, I teach them grammar skills as well as relevant essay writing skills, focusing on the specific grading rubric given by The Collegeboard.
The act Verbal Section
The ACT Verbal Sections consists of an English section, a reading comprehension section, an essay and a science section. Each section is worth 36 points. All sections, coupled with the math section, are averaged and give the student a score out of 36.
For the English section, I teach students grammar techniques which will allow them to interpret the grammatical mistakes in the given passages. To help improve their scores in the Reading Comprehension section, I focus on similar techniques as the SAT reading comp. section. In the essay portion, I show them how to interpret the essay prompt and write an effective essay.
For the Science section, I focus on fact interpretation and logic patterns to successfully interpret the questions.
